A Letter of Gratitude:

When most of you think of me, you probably imagine me capturing moments through the lens of an iPhone. But what you might not know is that before I founded @itookitonmyiphone, I was a professional photographer, That’s right—I used to work with DSLRs. I spent years running my own private photography business, and establishing a reputation for crafting distinctive images with meticulous attention to detail and creativity.

Then, one day, everything changed. I found myself at a crossroads—faced with the daunting choice of either completely reinventing my career or letting go of the passion that had defined so much of my life. It was during this period of uncertainty that I made a bold decision: I turned to iPhone photography. Unable to bring my professional cameras to shows due to increasing restrictions and practical limitations, I was left with only the camera I had left—the iPhone.

The transition from professional DSLR photography to iPhone photography was far from straightforward. I had always used my iPhone to snap fun pictures at horse shows, never imagining it could replace my professional gear. The thought seemed almost absurd at first. After all, we’re accustomed to using our phones for quick selfies or capturing moments to share on social media, not for serious, professional photography. But as necessity is often the mother of invention, I began to see potential where others saw limitations. Could I actually make this work? Could I be the first to fully dedicate myself to iPhone photography in a professional capacity?

The path ahead wasn’t easy. Venturing into the niche world of equestrian mobile photography felt like starting from scratch, and the concept was so new that I often felt the need to protect and defend it fiercely. The skepticism I encountered was palpable—few could see the potential in what I was trying to do. Transitioning from the high-quality images of a DSLR to the more limited capabilities of an iPhone required not just a shift in tools but a complete rethinking of how I approached photography. I had to learn to adapt my techniques, focus on composition, lighting, and timing in new ways, and embrace the constraints of this new medium.

But I was determined. I knew that if I nurtured this idea, if I babied it and allowed it to grow, it could become something extraordinary. So, I poured everything into it. I spent years refining my skills, experimenting with the iPhone’s capabilities, and proving that it could indeed be a powerful tool for professional photography. During those early days, recognition was scarce, and there were times when it felt like I was shouting into the void. But I believed in what I was doing, and I was committed to building something real—something authentic.

What’s more, I was adamant about letting this journey unfold naturally. I relied entirely on organic growth, refusing to take shortcuts or resort to anything artificial. Every follower, every bit of recognition, was earned through hard work and perseverance. I was determined to let my work speak for itself.

Over time, the tides began to turn. What started as an uncertain experiment slowly evolved into a respected niche. People began to take notice of the quality, the passion, and the creativity that went into each shot. The idea that I had once felt the need to defend was now gaining traction, and the recognition that had once seemed elusive was finally within reach.

The journey from professional DSLR photography to iPhone photography was long and often challenging, but it was also deeply rewarding. I took something that seemed impossible and turned it into a thriving reality. And now, as I look back on the path that led me here, I can see that it was all worth it. The choice to embrace iPhone photography wasn’t just a reinvention of my career—it was a reinvention of how I saw the potential within myself and the tools I had at my disposal.

Looking back on this journey, I’m filled with a profound sense of gratitude. What started as a reluctant pivot became a passion that reignited my love for photography in ways I never anticipated. The iPhone, once just a tool of convenience, has become an extension of my creative vision, allowing me to capture moments that resonate deeply with both myself and those who follow my work.

This journey has taught me that it’s not the camera that defines a photographer, but the heart and soul they pour into their craft. Through every challenge, every moment of doubt, and every small victory, I’ve come to understand that true artistry isn’t confined by the tools we use but is instead fueled by our willingness to see beauty in the unexpected and to embrace change with an open mind.

I’m incredibly thankful for the support and encouragement I’ve received along the way. It’s your belief in this unconventional path that has given me the strength to keep pushing forward, to keep creating, and to keep believing in the power of innovation. As I continue this journey, I’m excited to see where it will lead next, knowing that the best stories are often the ones we never planned to tell.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. Here’s to many more moments captured and shared—each one a testament to the magic that happens when you follow your heart, no matter where it leads.
